The Line between Insanity and Creativity

Sometimes, when we think about a certain term and we can’t properly describe it as we would like, many other terms come to our minds that can be directly or indirectly connected to it. This is the case of insanity and creativity.

There have been many studies regarding this topic, as scientists are trying to prove that there is a strong connection in between an insane and a creative person. This leads us to think that a creative person is at the same time an insane person as well, isn’t it? Well, the answer is both positive and negative. Let me explain myself.

A creative individual is the one that is able to make (create) imaginary or visionary things on its own, without the interval of an already existent object-person. All people are in a certain percent creative but some of them just far exceed the average. This –as specialists state- happens as the over – creative people’s right side of their brain works much more rapidly than an ordinary brain. This same thing happens with the brain of a schizophrenic individual. People with mental illnesses create in their minds a fictional world full of non-existent images, objects and situations. Same tends to do a creative painter or sculptor trying to materialize its thoughts.

Here comes the connection between them, a creative person has the sparkle of insanity. It had to be this way isn’t it?

Many of the biggest artists of all time suffered from serious mental diseases like Ludwig Van Beethoven, Vincent Van Gogh and Charles Baudelaire. Their lives weren’t beautiful or perfect as their creations. In fact most of them had difficult lives having to survive with very little money as they were incapable of maintaining a proper job to ensure them their living. Every highly creative person is whimsy and in a way unbalanced, it’s a form to perceive what normal people can’t see, hear or sense. People like these enjoy the privilege of being ‘’unhooked’’ of the every day’s prude perceptions and let themselves get overwhelmed by the magic of the unknown.

Yes, in the eyes of an average person this sound like an insanity but if you release yourself just a little bit you’ll realize that this is just… creativity!
