Horror Movies

In an article published in the journal Science, New York University researcher Erno Hermans argued that horror movies are excellent gymnastics for the brain.
Horror movies (the good ones, we suppose) seem to stimulate the brain to deal with stressful situations, but also to reorganize itself and sort through bad memories.
The study was conducted on eighty volunteers who underwent watching ten horror movies on ten consecutive days, including The Exorcist.
The results of magnetic resonance imaging and other studies indicate that various cortical and subcortical areas of the brain increased their connectivity when watching horror movies, as a result of the action of norepinephrine, also obtaining a reorganization of neural resources.
Everything seems to indicate that a good horror movie is, at least for the brain, a real and objective experience that requires it to sharpen the senses and strengthen the memory of other distressing situations.
The downside to watching horror movies, however, is that the brain slightly loses its ability to analyze because the areas involved in attention and increased perceptual alertness impair the analysis engines.
In other words, horror movies are excellent exercises for the brain, although they are inadvisable for making good decisions.
