The Second Death

The Second Death...The Death That We All Avoid.

The Real Second Death

The existance of the second death.

There is a second death, more silent and unnoticed, that occurs as suddenly as the first but without leaving relatives, or burials, or funerals, or pleasant conversations about the retrospective goodness of the deceased.

This second death occurs some time after the physical disappearance of the person. In some cases it happens almost immediately, in others it occurs several years, and even generations later; and consists in the cessation of the name, and perhaps of the spirit of the deceased.

The second death, to which we are all subject to even the most dilated celebrity, occurs almost like an unstoppable force.

Someone dies. The Second Life

People who knew him die.

People who knew those who knew him die.

People who knew those who knew those who knew him die.

What is the second death?

His name will never be spoken again.

There’s an algorithm that averagely states that as our second death that awaits us inexorably,  we will all be neatly forgotten about a hundred years after our physical demise.

We should modestly disagree tough as we are always determined to remember miserable events and omit others of greater historical relevance.

The second death does not consist in forgetting, but in the death of memory.

Indeed, the day will come when all the people who knew us will die, and with them all the memories, good and bad, that we have left in them. But with the disappearance of this court, something else will also disappear: our name.

The world will continue to turn without people who have known us. Nobody on the globe will have an anecdote about us, about our miseries and casual successes.

When the Earth dawns over a horizon where no one knows us, we will die a second time, and perhaps then we will be free.
